The UBS branch in Kingsport, Tennessee is the management operation closest to the coal fields of Central Appalachia. The strategic location of this office became apparent during the March on UBS‘ culminating Action. That Action was held in conjunction with Mountain Justice Spring Break in near-by Appalachia, Virginia.
The active participation of college students, Occupy JC, Berea College Campaign workers, and coal field residents determined the language around this event; focusing on the intersections between labor, environment, Appalachian history and culture. These elements make up the long term resistance efforts in Central and Southern Appalachia.
